Dear friends and supporters of IGGB,
The past year has confronted us all with overlapping crises and immense challenges, demanding resilience, patience, and strength. As we enter 2025, we find ourselves at another turning point: What developments will shape the world in the months ahead?
Global conflicts are intensifying, and we are witnessing significant political changes—in the United States, Germany, France, as well as countries like Syria, South Korea, and others. These shifts will undoubtedly test multilateral cooperation. In the face of pressing global challenges such as health inequities, climate change, environmental degradation, poverty, and hunger, the question arises: Will we succeed in finding sustainable and actionable solutions?
The UN Sustainable Development Agenda 2030, once a bold promise for a fairer world, is nearing its target year. Yet, it is already evident that many of its goals will not be fully achieved. What does this mean for the future, and how can we respond effectively?
This is where the vision of Global Health becomes indispensable: It aims to develop a comprehensive, human rights-based, multidisciplinary, and holistic approach to address these existential questions. The ultimate goals are health for all people worldwide and global equity. Global Health tackles transnational health issues, determinants, and solutions at the intersection of policy, science, and society, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and innovative strategies.
While significant progress has been made in recent years, both politically and academically, a critical task remains: fostering greater public engagement. How much does the public truly know about Global Health? And how can we empower individuals and societal groups to actively drive the implementation of these goals?
In 2025, IGGB will continue to serve as a platform for knowledge: informing, analyzing, advising, communicating, and highlighting emerging developments and challenges. We remain committed to dialogue and collaboration with you—our partners, supporters, and allies.
Let us work together to realize the vision of a fairer, healthier, and more sustainable world. We look forward to your continued support, as well as your ideas, suggestions, and contributions.
With best regards and unwavering optimism,
Mathias Bonk
